Wolfgang Devine – In the beginning was the creative word, not an abstract word. Although some of Edith Sitwell’s poetry might be called ‘abstract’, she explores the power of the musicality of language and creates pictures out of the rhythm, rhyme and dynamic of language. The poems recited here are originally spoken to the music of William Walton, Façade. To give language and music its right, we perform them separately.
